Call me an old softie, but I felt all lovely and fluffy inside when I heard about the engagement of Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani. Mind you, she must have felt very fluffy indeed at being handed a $500,000 engagement ring. My hand wouldn’t be able to hold a diamond that big; I’d need my tiny right hand to hold up the left just to go to the supermarket. But then I wouldn’t need to leave the house ever again if I met a man who could afford a jewel like that.
In these horrid Covid times, we welcome good news, and it’s clear the couple are totally besotted with each other and very much in love. I always thought that they were, long before they came out as a couple; on The Voice, Blake used to stare at Gwen like a starstruck teenager, and their banter always felt like that of a couple in sync with each other, rather than that between nodding acquaintances on a TV show.
I always fancied Blake myself, but I have an aversion to beards, so it was never a goer. Add to that the fact that I am not an international superstar, beautiful, and boasting a stunning figure, but hey, details, details.
It’s clear that Gwen’s three children adore Blake, too, and she has wisely kept her mouth shut about her ex-husband Gavin Rossdale, for their sakes. The singer songwriter even posted a lovely message to Instagram for the newly engaged couple.
Any break-up is hard, but after 13 years of marriage and three children, the hurt, pain and publicity must have been tough for Gwen; so, I’m glad she has found happiness with that divine bear of a man.
And although it’s said that diamonds are a girl’s best friend, the reality is that a girl’s best friend is her true best friend. My heart is fluffy that Gwen found it.
