He’s the corpse that keeps on giving. Has there ever been a man who, in death, stirred up more problems for people than he did when alive?
Jesus, maybe, albeit for very different reasons, and at least The Jesus Files (basically, the New Testament) were about telling people how to be nicer human beings. True, St Paul’s letters exposed a lot of bad behaviour among the Corinthians, Romans et al, but by Epstein’s mates’ standards, they were paragons of virtue.
Ate too many grapes and shagged each other senseless. Bit of torture on the side, the odd killing, people who cheated at chariot races etc. When he was blinded after racing off to arrest some Christians, Saul’s life changed when given his sight back and became Paul.
Ruined his life. Now he saw depravity all around him and couldn’t wait to bang on and on about the evil he perceived.
But jeez, Paul! Too many letters when a few Tweets would have sufficed.
So, back to the monster who was Epstein. I’ve never been a Royalist and, to be honest, I’m not wholly surprised by what we’re seeing in those circles and now in politics, too. The sight of Peter Mandelson in his undies really put me off my dinner last night. But then his face always did that, anyway.
What I just don’t get about the whole debacle (a word that doesn’t begin to describe ‘the horror, the horror’, to steal from Heart of Darkness) is why so many were drawn under his spell. Far from spotting the red flags that were as obvious as those on a National Military Parade in China and giving him a wide berth, they gave him every berth on Royal Caribbean.
Surely people must have known who he really was – he’d done time for paedophilia, for goodness’ sake. If that doesn’t tell you something about a person, what’s it going to take to make you see the reality? Chinese water torture?
Why did all these people want so badly to be his friend? Money? Power? Did he lure people in with the sole intention of using whatever he had against them at a future date?
I find it inconceivable that Fergie would talk to a convicted paedophile about her daughter’s sex life, let along take both girls to visit him after he had served his sentence for his heinous crime. But then she was one of many who appeared to enjoy his generosity and wealth. Are people really that impressed by money that they will happily overlook whatever else it might be masking?
I’m currently reading Andrew Lownie’s book, Entitled, about Fergie and Andrew, and it makes my jaw drop so far, it’s taken up residence under my floorboards.
When you experience extreme privilege just because who you are by virtue of your birth – entitlement – it can make some people behave in the most despicable ways.
Either you are thick as shit in not recognising who and what Epstein was, or you did and chose to ignore it.
Either way, it doesn’t look good for you.
Shame on the lot of you.
